Oil painting Ex-hale – Magdalena Dziejma
The oil painting “Ex-hale” is a story of lightness, freshness and coming back to yourself. It depicts a woman closing her eyes, as if taking in the world not with her senses but with her soul. Her face is lifted towards the light – calm, free, full of youthful energy. It is a moment to breathe, when you can pause for a while and feel life becoming lighter.
Every brushstroke creates space for emotion and silence. The painting is kept in light, cool tones of blue, white and muted greys, which symbolise purity and calm. Soft transitions of colour recall the movement of air, and the delicate points of light on the canvas bring to mind tiny, flickering fireflies – subtle signs of life and energy. That is why “Ex-hale” is a painting about light that does not dazzle but embraces; about a freshness that soothes rather than chills.
The woman in the painting seems immersed in silence, yet at the same time she radiates inner strength. It is a portrait of the moment in between – between a breath and a thought, between sleep and awareness. For me, it is a painting about letting go: about the moment when there is nothing left to prove. Simply being.
I love painting women, because a remarkable truth lies hidden in their gazes, their gestures and their silence. Each of them carries a light within – sometimes hidden, sometimes barely visible, but always present. “Ex-hale” is an attempt to capture the moment when inner light meets outer radiance. When silence becomes strength.
The painting brings a sense of space and breath into an interior. It pairs perfectly with natural materials – wood, linen, stone – and with light, minimalist interiors. It is full of freshness and harmony, yet it also holds emotional depth.
