Acrylic painting My Arcadia – Magdalena Dziejma
The acrylic painting “My Arcadia” is a story of calm, dreams and the balance between strength and delicacy. The painting unfolds a scene full of contrasts – on one side, a mighty, majestic leopard resting lazily on a branch; on the other, a woman relaxing in a hammock that seems to hang among the clouds. Although everything sets them apart – size, energy, nature – there is harmony between them in this extraordinary space.
The leopard symbolises strength, alertness and primal instinct. Its presence is calm yet full of power, and at the same time it acts as the guardian of this dreamy world. The woman, in turn, seems to be part of the dream – light, calm, immersed in a moment of rest. Her figure symbolises trust and balance, because only in complete calm can you allow yourself to truly unwind.
In the background, on the bark of the tree, there is an almost invisible sign – a skull. This subtle detail is the key to the meaning of the painting. In culture, Arcadia symbolises an ideal, happy life – a world without worry or suffering. Yet the combination of this symbol with the image of a skull is a reminder that even in the most beautiful calm there is an awareness of transience. This juxtaposition invites reflection on human existence – on the fact that happiness is beautiful precisely because it is fragile.
The palette is kept in cool blues and soft beiges, so the whole radiates calm and lightness. Diffused light gives the scene a dreamlike character, and subtle transitions of colour create the impression of a dream slowly fading away. Even so, the painting is not melancholic – on the contrary, it brings comfort and reminds us that fulfilment can be found in simplicity.
This painting fits perfectly into spaces where calm and subtlety are valued – bright interiors, natural materials, soft light. It brings an atmosphere of silence and reverie, while becoming a focal point for both the eye and the mind.
